For me, being a creator isn’t just a job, it’s my life. Being a designer doesn’t begin and end at a computer screen. Everywhere I go I see the beauty in the little details that most people don’t have the time to stop and look at. For 5 and half years, I’ve been at Conair Corp, becoming a lead designer on the Scunci, Allegro, Brushes, and Grooming brands. I’m constantly thinking of how I can push the boundaries and move the brands I lead forward. Keeping up with fashion, tech and aesthetic trends is a constantly moving target and a never ending challenge that I fully embrace. Even when designing boxes, I try to think outside of them. (wow what a bad pun). I’ve just relocated to Southbridge MA, an hour outside of Boston, and I’m thrilled to break new ground. Naturally there comes a time when some of the packaging on the shelf looks a bit dated. That time came in 2021 for these 4 lines, Tourmaline, Performers, Mega Ceramic, and Classic Wood. The challenge was to create new packaging with fresh, modern visuals that dont completely abandon the look and feel that came before as we still want consumers to recognize these lines on the shelf. These new designs have much stronger typography and treatment of color and layout. The first banner I designed, which featured bright pops of color, products and branding for Ponytail, Fit Girl Club, Scunci Basics, and Scunci Elite, generated a large bump in sales of Scunci products through Ulta.com, since most retail shopping was done online in 2020, this was an important market to corner. Naturally when it came time to update with Scunci’s new athliesure line, 1959, I jumped at the opportunity to create another eye catching banner to steer sales towards the new products. Seasonal promotions provide retailers with a unique opportunity to develop fresh products with recognizable aesthetics year-round. With both Scunci and Conair promotions, seasonal concepts and promotions were developed every quarter. Of course there are expected elements with every season, black and orange for halloween, red and green for christmas, ect… my approach is always to marry the expected with something unexpected: a hint of nostalgia, an unexpected pattern, a handmade quality, and overall: fun and exciting design. At the heart of New Haven’s college town, it was the most popular hotspot in the city. They had a different party or sponsorship promo going on several nights of the week. As a freelance designer they provided me with plenty of work that had to be turned around very quickly. I developed a cohesive look for their social media campaigns with bright backgrounds, fun typography and titles. I am lucky enough to provide concept art for custom projects that come through their design and manufacturing house. These are one of a kind pieces developed for national brand commissions or sometimes given as gifts for celebrities. It all starts with a flat 2D design and a collaborative effort between myself, the project managers, and the manufacturing team to bring these bikes to life through everything from decals, color choices, custom seats, accessories, and even the occasional 3D printed part.
